[...] Should WordPress be released by Automattic or can a company be stewards of a brand and an ideal. There is a very valid argument to ensuring that WP remains alive and vibrant and that Automattic could get in the way of that. Personally I don’t see that happening. Maybe because I know Matt. There is a nastiness, however, that I don’t think is adding anything to the debate. Maybe Matt is sick of the discussion and he’s sticking to his guns, I don’t know. Duncan is asking some tough questions of Matt, but there is an undertone that I don’t think is good: Of course there seems to be an aloofness creeping in to WordPress these days as well. I contacted Matt not long after I started writing for TechCrunch with a question about a site being shut down/ removed from WordPress.com, the response I got was terse and down right rude. I sent another email off, thinking that perhaps he?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢d forgotten my past loyalties to him (being one of the very few people to publicly defend him?¢‚Ǩ¬¶heck, even his mother and sister contacted me to thank me for supporting him during the spam crisis) and all I got back was a shit response again. Suffice to say I didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t send him any more email requests. Really weird though that I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m able to talk to CEO?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s of multi-million dollar startups without a problem and yet the only serious grief I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve had in 3 months at TechCrunch was from Matt Mullenweg.
'And while we?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re at it: if we?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re on a jihad against links, how about the WordPress team stop stuffing their own links into the standard install of WordPress.'

Great post Duncan. I have always enjoyed your writing style, and you continue to inspire with your words. All valid points, and all very interesting. We will see how this whole thing plays out, and thanks for linking our little post on Blogging Pro.

What franky said.

I couldn't agree more. I think Wordpress may have shot itself in the foot now with less choice.

Good article :)
